The most important achievement of Alexander was the fact that he spread Greek culture and language!
{Alexander was from real Macedonia in Greece (the Greek-Macedonia or Macedon) not from the modern Slavic/Macedonia as a user mistakenly confused!}
Alexander managed to unite the Greek states under his powerful command. He made an incredible campaign for 10 years and won every battle he fought!
But he was not seen as a conqueror from the enslaved nations of the Persian empires! Instead he was considered as a liberator!
As I mention above the most important achievement was the spreading of the Greek culture. But not by force! Instead he fused Greek cultures with Asian elements creating a New Greek civilization which was later called Hellenistic.
He founded nearly 70 Greek cities (most of them called Alexandria) and the most important of them was Alexandria of Egypt, the center of Greek culture mainly because of its library!
Greek language became so dominant that as a result the Old Testament was translated in Greek and the New Testament was written directly in Greek! And that was the main reason for their fast spreading.
The Greek states became so powerful that, although the constant wars between them, they controlled the known word for 300 years.
The Greek influence was so strong that even the Romans although they were conquers they were heavily influenced and their culture was called Greek/Roman.
As a conclusion we can say that with out Alexander the Greek civilization would have never became so powerful and with out the Greek world the western civilization would have never existed!
(important note: Do not confuse the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia with the modern Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia as they are not related at all. The modern state started to use as international name the Greek name "Macedonia" and that causes a great confusion with real Macedonia in Greece)

Alexander the Great was king of Macedon during a time when cultural differences (and massive amounts of land) separated countries. He conquered ALL countries from Greece and all its city-states to the Punjab (Northern) region of India. He conquered the second most amount of land (second to Ghengis Khan) ever, at the young age of 30. Had he not died, he probably would've conquered Europe, creating a very different Western world history. (Perhaps even the discovery of the "New World" thousands of years before Vikings and Columbus.)

Alexander's conquests also had long term cultural effects, with the flourishing of Hellenistic civilization throughout the Middle East and Central Asia, and the development of Greco-Buddhist art in the Indian subcontinent.

Well the significance of Alexander is that he conquered a lot of land with his MACEDONIAN army and he was under the age of 30 when he did this!! Also allot of Greeks might confuse you by saying that he is Greek!! He was not Greek he was MACEDONIAN and was from the empire call MACEDON! His father Philip was also MACEDONIAN but was married to a Greek!! Greeks claim and have been lying for many many years!! They claim that he Greek because he was from the part of land that Greece occupied in 1913 from the today country called MACEDONIA!!! Today's country called MACEDONIA was divided in 1913 by the Britishers and the french and Greece took a large part of land, once they took this part they had changed names of Cities,Villages, Lakes and rivers! also Macedonian churches were wiped out! People that were Macedonian that were still living there were stripped of their human rights and were not allowed to speak there language!! To make a long story short Greece say that he is Greek because they occupy the city that he is born in today!!

If it weren't for him, then Christianity would have spread much more slowly.
First of all Alexandria's policy of forcibly moving people around in his empire in order to mix up the cultures caused Jews from Israel to be relocated around the Med. This exposed other people to Jewish culture & beliefs who might not have otherwise known about it. Jewish people who were spread around the Greek empire eventually forgot how to speak Hebrew, so the Jewish scriptures had to be translated into Greek -- which also helped expose the peoples of the Eastern Med. to the idea of the Jewish God. The fact that everyone in the eastern med. region spoke Greek as a result of Alexandria's Empire also made it easy for early Christian missionaries like the Apostle Paul to spread the teachings of Jesus, since everyone had a common language and culture.
