I've seen lots of rockers both famous and not use SGs and Telecasters for gigs and everything especially when relating to distortion or overdrive. What are the pros and cons of these Guitars say compared to the Stratocaster and the Les Paul?

Telecasters are much more "twangy" than a strat for instance. The playability is much the same. Notice the difference in pick-ups on the strat vs. the tele. The strat is just more suited for an all around sound, the tele is a little more "country" if you will. Of course, these aren't laws, so of course you can mold your own sound out of them, especially if you run any effects. An sg vs. just les paul is a lot to do with comfort. The sg is lighter, and with the twin cutaway, its usually preferred more by girls. I don't mean that in a derogatory way at all, a lot of guys play them too for that reason. As far as sound, they both sound pretty similar to me, but of course there are variables such as your pick-ups, your amp, your effects, all that stuff. Again, the playability should be about the same really. As long as you're dealing with finely crafted ones, not cheap imitations.

It's all personal preference. A Tele is more twangy, better suited for country fried rock. Both Strats and Teles are not really suited for a rhythm guitar. An SG and Les Paul are pretty similar in sound, I think. I'd suggest getting a Gibson ES 335 Dot. It's the most perfect electric guitar.

I personally would go for a Les Paul (Even the epiphone, as the only real difference is the "original Les Paul has plastic machine heads). It has an all around crisp "lead" guitar sound as well as a rhythm guitar sound. where as the SG and Telecaster have more of a rythm guitar sound.

I have an SG and I get great distortion and overdrive although it helps I go through Marshall amps....as far as the Telecaster, to me they're a bit too tinny sound wise....gimme a Les Paul anytime though!!
