If British or Great Britain a rich country, How come most of the things to buy are so expensive? And why are the taxes so high?

They have state run health care. Like Canada, this is a large reason their income tax is so high.

Their gas (petrol) is also about $6-7 per gallon. A large part of that is taxes.

Do you have health care, schools, roads, a police force? Taxes are the price you pay for civilization.
