MySpace has gotten a rather strong reputation of attracting some very bad people -- people who misrepresent themselves as closer to your age to develop friendships with younger people like you and try to take advantage of you, or they might be honest about their age and just hope to find people your are who might be willing to take a risk. Believe me, it's real, and you need to be careful. Your parents are just looking out for your safety.
Of course, *your* arguments are also correct. Used responsibly, it can be a lot of fun, and obviously I'm sure a lot of your friends are already using it (some responsibly and others are pushing the envelope).
I believe if you are under 15 (or at least truthfully answer that you are), your MySpace profile is automatically made private and at any age you have option of making your profile private, which is good for divorced people such as myself.
Have a serious conversation with your parents. Explain to them they you understand the risks that are associated with any younger person using the Internet and promise to be responsible. Offering them your password is certainly a good gesture. If they resist, calmly remind them that you are committed to keeping yourself safe online.
Good luck!

No, I'm not a minor. Yes, I do have a myspace. Let me just tell you that it is not for 14 year old kids. There is a lot of junk on there, and a lot of solicitations. It's a way for people to take advantage of young kids.
By the way, you have to be at least 16 or 18 years old to even start up a myspace.
Just be thankful that you have loving and caring parents, and just get over it until you are older. Once you are old enough, then you can make your own decisions. Sorry kid!

I'm 18, i do have a myspace, and I didnt need permission. I think myspace is great, it's an easy way to catch up and keep in touch with friends, especially if you don't get to see them that often, using and creating your myspace could be a for of artistic expression, your parents could learn alot about you if they take the time to see what your interesred in, and what kind of people you talk to. I do think your parents are only trying to do what's right for you though. But it is smart to go ahead and give them your password and stuff to gain more confidance. I've attached a site for you to go to that says 43 million reasons to use myspace, I personally have not visited the site but you never know. WHAT DOESN'T HURT MIGHT HELP. yano what i mean??

I see where your parents are coming from, but you do need to express yourself. To me my myspace is a way to keep in touch with old friends, keep everyone u to date and vent in my bulletins and blogs. If you set ur site to private, elect to review all comments before they post, and show that you are a minor, there's not much that can happen. If you give your parents access to your account, what more is there to be afraid of? I mean come on, you can get away with so much just at school and in online chat rooms, it's ridiculous how myspace gets a bad rap. Parents blame the internet for their bad parenting skills! And all this is coming from a conservative Republican! I hope you show your parents my thoughts! I'm 21, live on my own, graduated college and have never been in trouble...

I`m a parent and my daughter that has a myspace page. I agreed with this because it helps her keep in touch with her relatives and friends that we moved away from. Also anything that is sent to you or e-mails that are sent to you are all posted and also anyone that you recieve as a myspace there info is available to you also. Can`t hide the content sent or recieved and is in view for everyone to read. My daughter is 12 and I keep close tabs on her daily. You have to have an e-mail address so anything sent goes to that e-mail. Also any bad content sent to your myspace page can get you thrown off so any bad pictures or adult content is not allowed. Trust me I did not approve at 1st but I logged on myself and me and my wife check her page daily so theres nothing going on. And if it does then the myspace page is gone. Give it a chance mom & Dad. It`s not that bad!!!

Tell them i want to be publicly involved in the society i live in, and that myspace is a great place to start, tell them, its a great way to start an opinion, so that everyone can read it in the world, START A NEW REVOLUTION BABY!!, better yet, just make on behind there backs What they don't know, won't hurt them, and if your scared to get caught, just wait another 4 years, and then you can make on, or better yet, tell them it's a project for school, and i have to design a web page, and they mentioned myspace.
i dunno, I'm 16, and my parents can give a **** less at what i do online.. take charge! tell them how you feel about myspace, tell them that communication is a key in society. also let them know that computers are the future, and you don't want to be left behind, and by starting a web page like myspace, will benefit my role in the future, remember, you're only 14, use big words when arguing, it shows more maturity.
Good luck to you!

I am 27 years old and I just recently got into myspace. I honestly don't see the problem. I love it. If anyone that you don't know wants to add you or vise versa, they have to get your permission. Definitely let your parents have your password so they can check on it too. And if they do let you get one....respect your parents and don't get stupid on the site. Explain to them that it's a fun way to show your friends who you are. Good luck !!

facebook and Myspace have no longer something to do with saftey. as long as you're clever and don't provide out own counsel to human beings on the two one then they are the two basically as secure. p.s. I say MYSPACE.
