My boyfriend says his mechanic told him that leaving a CD in the player can drain his car battery. The mechanic said that is why his last battery needed to be replaced.
Has anyone heard of this or had it happen to them?

your battery will become drained if there is a current being drawn by any component. Just leaving a disc in your computer will not draw any current until the computeris turned on and then only when the disc is played.
Why should your car be any different. I have a cd in my player right now, but is it turned off, so it will not draw current.

Current drain requires a complete path for current to flow and a source to energizw that path. What kind of a Mechanic is that anywqay? Sounds like what we call a Pepper Tree mechanic. In any case: those are the facts.

I have never heard of this. I always leave a CD in my player and my last battery just lasted me 7 years. If you leave the radio playing then it would drain....but i think you would need the keys to be in the car for that on most cars.

Not unless the stereo is wired wrong and continually plays. If you have a weak battery turn off all drains before you start (and turn off) your engine - ie.. radio, air, blowers, wipers - and get a new battery before it won't start at all......Oh and the mechanic is talking out of his wallet.

Not if the cd player is installed correctly. It should turn off when the ignition is turned off.
