im not sure i know the answer to this
i think that it is because calcium has one more valence electron than potassium, but i really just guessed....help?

the protons in the nucleus atract the outermost shell

in calcium a new proton is aded to the nucleus whereas the electron is added to the same shell therefore the efective nuclear charge increases making the element smaller
