Maria has some money in her account ( I just make this part up it's not important though).Her money doubles for every 4 years. After 20 years she has 120 000 in her account. How much money did Maria have when she started?

why don't we add all of them together? like
x +2x +4x+16x+32x=120 0000 ?

at time 0, she puts x into her account.
after 4 years she has 2x.
after 8 years she has 4x.
after 12 years she has 8x.
after 16 years she has 16x.
after 20 years she has 32x.
after 20 years she has $120,000, so $120,000 = 32x.
$120,000/32 = x = $3,750 and that's the answer.

$3,750.oo If that amount is doubled every 4th year in 20 years you will have $120,000.oo
