The easiest way to look at this is to think about a regular number squared. Let's say 4^2. All this means is '4 times 4' easy, right? Your problem is (2x+3)^2. So just write it out like I wrote out the 4 ^2 above. It will look like, (2x+3)(2x+3), now use the FOIL method and get what the others have stated 4x^2 +12x + 9

By the way, if you want to know what x equals, just set what's inside the parenthesis equal to zero and solve for x.
2x+3 = 0
then subtract 3 from each side, 2x + 3 - 3 = 0 - 3
2x = -3
then divide each side by two to
get the x by itself 2x/2 = -3/2
x = -3/2

I got

4x^2 +2(2x)(3) + 3^2 = 4x^2 + 12x + 9

(2x + 3)^2 = (2x + 3)(2x + 3) = 4x^2 + 6x + 6x + 9 = 4x^2 + 12x + 9

you can't multiply the coefficients then square that value to get the middle.

the original problem is: (2x+3)^2
the way i learned is put a 2 outside of the quantity
like this: 2(2x+3)^2
take 2x times itself. then take 3 times 2x times the two outisde the quantity. and then take 3 times 3.
This is my answer: 4x^2+12x+9

its in this form (a+b)^2
which is solved in following manner
a^2 + 2ab + b^2
therefore, (2x+3)^2 = 4x^2 + 12x + 9

(2x + 3)(2x +3)
4x² + 6x + 6x + 9
4x² + 12x + 9

a = 4
b = 12
c = 9

to find x use the quadratic equation:

x=(-b+/-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a).

This equation is known as the quadratic formula.

PS: x will have TWO values.
