Well...it wouldn't be too hard to look this up yourself.
But here is one I think if vitally important to how America is now:
George Washington and his refusal to accept a 3rd term of presidency. Obviously he was a great general and blah blah blah-played a pivotal role in the actual war, the our "American Revolution" is a sucess because it created a nation that has successfully withstood the test of time (so far!) based on its founding principles. Think about all the other countries that have had revolutions. Why do they fail? Most of the time, the first person who takes power gets greedy and corrupt. They started out as idealist, wishing for freedom, and a reublican type of government, and end up becoming power hungry tryants, and dictators. The 3rd term of presidency was offered to GW. If I remember correctly, he had no opponents and the office of presidency 3rd term was virtually handed to him on a silver platter. His refusal to take the third term defined the American presidential office to a limit of two terms, and really went against everything that the empiricism represented.
Second guy is Benjamin Franklin.
Not only did he enlist the help of the French, but he cemented the relationship between France and the United States. His intelligence and wit captivated the French Court and caught the imagination of France. He put Americans on the map...we were no longer just a country of farmers, but also of science, and wit.

Hey Sid, wanna know something? I can't. Why? Because. There was nothing honorable in the American revolution. Revolutions aren't legitimate. Most of it was lies. The limeys can be an awfully testy bunch sometimes, but I have to say, they acquitted themselves more honorably than we ever did, or will.
