I THOUGHT THAT IF SHE WAS MARRIED HER HUSBAND WOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE CHILD. OR DID THEY GET A DIVORCE BEFORE THE CHILD WAS BORN? DID NO FATHER SIGN THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

if she was married, who has been raising the child over the last year or two? Who has been supporting the baby? Where has her husband been?
If you don't have a lawyer, get one, and ask about what's called Estopple doctrine. As an example, the Montana Supreme Court held that equitable estoppel bars a mother who secreted a child from her father for eight years from collecting past due child support. Estoppel is a legal principle which, because of a person's previous act of conduct or omission, does not allow that person to assert a legal right.

Well, well, now there is a poor child born, with a father that wants nothing to do with him not even pay child support? Sorry pal, but not for you but for the poor child. As someone else said, it sounds like you did not know the woman at all but you wanted to dip it and now you will have to pay. Why do you think that you are the victim? The child is the victim. How do you suppose her husband is going to feel about that child, is he going to love him/her, stand up to your responsibilty at least as a sperm donor as that is what you are and prepare to PAY..In most states if you don't pay you will lose your drivers license, spend time in jail, have your wages garnished, not to mention the embarrassment of being on the DeadBeat fathers list.. As far as sending your children to college, you can do it..Just pull in your boot straps a bit and maybe they will have to get grants or loans of which you can help pay off later when you are on your feet better. In the mean time, keep your pants on.

Suggest you enroll in Tom Lykis 101 class... Yes. You made the deposit, she gets to withdraw from your account for the next 18 years... ah, the price to pay for a night of fun..... even if a woman promises to NEVER sue you for child support, she can change her mind ANY TIME in that 18 years of that child's life... a hard lesson to learn I know. Maybe your other children, college-aged, can apply for grants and scholarships (especially if you are a single dad) and help out with a work-study program. Make sure they sit down with the financial aid office at their college and check to see what is available to them. Also, try FastWeb.com to register for other scholarships that might be available to them.

the state of florida will not help you because you went to the wrong office, do not hire a lawyer, call the house of representatives or the congressmans office in your area, and let them do the communicating with the state of florida, have what ever papers ready that you may have,do not communicate with what ever office you went to that wouldnt help you, now my friend, you are in the numbers game,i suggest is, that if you are the bio-dad,fight for custody, there are many loop holes that the state of florida are using ,why not you, fighting for custody is not what the state nore the woman want, dont give in and do not agree to any set up that the state has in store for you if you go to court, they will try to scare you with jail time , it is all a game, i have told many people do not back down,it works, now if you do call the house of representatives be nice, all they want to hear is your side of the story, and they will help you, these offices , in most cases, will not ask you to take time off from work, these offices are the watch dogs , and they love helping people in your situation, especially when mothers, such as the one you were involve with,go to the state and take advantage of people.....good luck

Unfortunately - yes I feel that you should pay child support if this child is indeed yours. It's not the child's fault that he/she was conceived under false pretenses. I guess we all need to be careful who we decide to go to bed with because it may not always turn out to be what we expected and in the end, the one that loses out the most are the children.

Birth control is not the only reason to use protection. You obviously didn't know her very well. STDs are out there and you should feel lucky she didn't leave YOU with the prize once it was over. Consider yourself lucky that the only result was a child and not HIV or Hep C.
Anyway, since she can prove the child is yours, yes, you will have to pay.
