If the Dr. suspects a multiple birth (twins or more) he/she will order an Ultrasound to determine if its a multiple and how many... Multiple births are considered higher risk... You will have more prenatal check-ups leading up to the due date.. Your belly will be larger than with a single child due to more being in there...

Twins and some triplets can be born vaginally your Dr. will help you decide what is best... Higher order multiples are almost always delivered C-section due to some complications once the last couple children are in the uterus alone with a lot of room... They sometimes don't descend into the birth canal....

Triplets and higher order multiples are very rare without fertility drugs but not impossible... Twins are the most common multiple birth...

Unless you enter the higher order multiples (triplets and more) your pregnancy will progress very similarly to a single birth.. You will gain a bit more weight due to more baby weight you will be more prone to stretch marks due to more baby mass and a larger belly, you will show the pregnancy earlier due to more baby mass.... Your Dr. will want periodic Ultra sounds to check the progress of each child individually... With each baby above one the risk factors increase slightly with the change of premature birth and complications raising exponentially with each additional child...

I found out I was pregnant with twins, by ultrasound. My doc suspected it, because I was sooooo sick and the prescriptions weren't helping. I was always horribly exhausted too, and I really thought that I was the most tired with this pregnancy, it wasn't like the others. My doc's first question to me, was whether or not twins run in the family. I said yes, looked at him, and said ok turn that machine on! Sure enough, two tiny little babies.

Later on, I began to show earlier, and get bigger sooner. Right now I'm 31 weeks and I measure like I'm full term. And, you can tell that there's two in there. One's on the front, and one is off to the side. They play together in there a lot now too.

But again, looking back...in the first stage I would have never guessed it was twins, without having that ultrasound.

the only fool-proof way is to have an ultrasound. but i guess there are other signals like any symptoms you have being exaggerated. symptoms i mean SIGNS. pregnancy isnt a sickness and doesnt have symptoms but signs, as someone so nicely pointed out to me on here previously. lol
