If the answer is "yes" does it use a lot of electricity?

It depends on how much you use it, and what for. As for wear, a lot of the wear on electronics comes from powering them up and down, so disks and such will often last better if left on.

Windows systems need to be shutdown or rebooted fairly frequently to avoid memory problems. Linux can run for years without rebooting.

If you don't want to shut down and lose your environment you can put the computer into sleep mode, which uses very little power.

And, don't forget the external devices, those cubes draw power. Put all your external devices (router, speakers, printer, etc.) on a separate power strip and turn that off when you are not using it.

You should turn it off. The accumulation of everyone leaving things plugged in (phone chargers, etc) or on uses up quite a bit of electricity needlessly.

It may seem like a small thing but it's something that if each of us did, it would make an impact.

if you leave it on continually it can take its tole on the memory. what i mean to say is that if you leave it on for a long time and than start to use it, the computer will respond really slowly. it may even freeze. you would have to restart it to get it to work normally. apart from that it can cause glitches in your hard drive and it might (there is a small chance of this) corrupt the drivers in your computer

Yes but change it so it goes into hibernation or something when you're not using it. It won't use a lot of electricity and it makes my comp. run a lot faster.

comps are like anything else. the more you use them the faster they will quit on you.

I don't and you should not.
