i need a cheep(under $200) scooter for school i dont care if its gas or ele. but it will need to go up hills and i need it to be able to hold me(i would probley say max. 250-300lbs so it can go somewhat fast) . i would like also to know the laws in Utah for scooters. thanks

A new, low-end scooter from a reliable maker like Honda or Yamaha will run you upwards from $1500 so you might want to increase your budget and consider used or take your chances with an unknown brand. I would look at a bicycle instead since you'll get the exercise as a benefit and it won't cost you near as much.

The low-end scooters that are less than 49cc in power and go less than 30mph in speed are often exempt from the more specific motorcycle licensing and registration laws but check with the Utah DMV first. MA and CA both publish a motorcycle guide (which Utah may have one of it's own) that defines what is a motorcycle vs. what is a moped and what the specific requirements are for each. Good luck!
