Why are some people afraid to fly?

i guess becuase its just not natural to fly, and we're used to driving

That is what they say alright, that you have a higher chance of dying in a car accident than in a plane accident.

However, when people are afraid to fly, it is a "phobia", so they have to overcome it gradually or use visualizations picturing themselves on airplane with everything going fine.

I must add, that these days with all the terrorist attacks and atempts to blow up airplanes, it isn't exactly the perfect time to get over your phobia of flying. I don't have a fear of flying, but I do now do to all terrorist acts that are happening.

Maybe they are just afraid of heights or they get air sick when they are up there due to the airplane's erratic movement. It is understandable though that some people are afraid to fly because they may have experienced bad things in the past while on flight and don't want that to experience it again. The main concern here is that no matter where you are, if something goes wrong, it can be very painful psychologically knowing that you may die slowly or painfully.

My fear is crashing into the ocean and dieing to the sharks or crashing out in a forest all messed and lost or losing engine power in the sky and knowing we all are not surviving this. I think driving has risks but an ambulance can come etc......

if a plane stalls it is a lot worse than if a car stalls...

Of course, but you don't fly everyday... some times people is afraid of those thing that are not familiar. We use cars almost every day that's why we feel secure traveling that way.

i don't own a car either they are all dangerous espcially in the wrong hands i would not fly for a million bucks
