Can you tell the difference, just by looking, between a Kenyan and a Senegalese? An Iranian and a Pakistani? A Lakota and an Apache? A Korean and a Tibetan? A Norwegian and a Swede? Well, neither can I!
Your father has a pronounced Sicilian flavor, I'm sure, but not every Italian wears it on his or her sleeve. I would also imagine that the further away you are from a person racially or culturally, the harder it is to tell people apart.

Yeah I don’t really get your question. But if you’re talking about Italian Americans whether they’re first and second generation or whose family has been here since the late 19th century, well that’s easy to answer. It’s because Italian Americans, Irish Americans, German Americans, Polish Americans, and Jewish Americans assimilated to American society. These are the main ethnic groups that joined street gangs and formed their mafia in the 19th and early 20th century if you read the books “Gangs of New York”, “All Around Town”, “Gangs of Chicago”, “Barbary Coast” all written by Herbert Asbury. Now many of their descendants make up the high end of economics in the United States. They’re now scientists, lawyers, Supreme Court Justices, MDs, business entrepreneurs, military generals, and many are top elected officials. Their descendants assimilated unlike the illegal Mexican Indios that want to make us learn Spanish and wave their flag in this country. The latest Italian immigrants I’ve met at my former college or the aviation company I use to work for are not poor, low educated “dagos” like the ones that just arrived in New York, New Orleans, and New England in the 19th and early 20th century. They’re college students studying here or business entrepreneurs as well doing business in the US. Italy isn’t that poor anymore like in the 19th century or after World War 2.

they want to imitate -- because of the god father image. that was indeed a very strong image --heavy Italian accent, yet typically Italian offer "I will make you an offer, you can not possibly refuse" remember. Thus, the similarity. while Anglo Saxon protestant --the Italian is complete opposite --yes, he is white, catholic, roman of origin etc. You be the Judge -- I have no offer for you --to refuse or to accept.
