If cells don't divide we cannot grow, our hair and nails cannot grow, and our skin cannot regenerate. Quite frankly, we would be not even be born! Cells divide to make new cells and everything we have is made up of cells!

To replace old cells that die. Also so that the organism may grow larger or recover from from any injury/wound.
