Well, I understand that it wouldn't have passed, except the founding fathers promised to come back and add a Bill of Rights later on, and thankfully they did.

Of course, I wish they would have tried to be less high minded on the language and get the 2nd Amendment crystal clear.

Many forms of governance were considered including monarchy. A representative democracy was settled on as most desirable.

The states were most strongly divided by how representatives would be chosen. States equally versus population. That's why it set up the bicameral system with the Senate and the House. That was the great compromise central to its adoption.

The Bill of Rights was added as the result of clarifications requested prior to ratification.

It was then ratified by the States.
