Question:

We are a modern country. We send text messages back and forth to each other. We can download movies in a matter of seconds, etc.

Why then do we elect people that have views of the world that are similar to 1910?

They don't believe in science. They are repressed and they don't think for themselves.

Why is this?

There are alternatives. There are people who auctually read books and newspapers. These people understand scientific concepts.

I'll be happy to explain further.

I have nothing against faith. Faith is wonderful.

However, we have elected leaders in this country who think that we solve our problems by beating people up or invading them rather
than talking to them.

These people don't want to support scientific research (stem cells) that will svae lives because they are following a narrowminded view that this is against a small minorities religious viewpoint. So in the meantime we all have to suffer.

The people who currently run this country have a view of the world that is so behind the rest of the modern world.

Yet we are a modern country. We like modern stuff and modern methods. Why they are our leaders 100 years behind the modern world in how their running the place?

We elect them because there's no better alternative. All politicians are the same.

I disagree -- all politicians are not the same. They each have a different agenda, and while they may share some characteristics, there are some who genuinely want to do a good job for the people they represent. But they are a minority, and politics is like anything else... if you want someone else to support your efforts later on, you need to walk a fine line when they ask you to support their interests now.

But back to the question... I don't follow your question/concern.. what do you mean, they don't believe in science and don't think for themselves? Please explain.

Because a good portion of the people that elect these officials think the same way. In fact, I bet that most officials don't really follow the belief system they claim, they only say that they do and act like they do to get elected.
