It is according to my sons. One is 16 and in a private Catholic H.S., the other is away at college. They both think all this debate over same-sex marriage is nonsense. They claim that their generation thinks us all fools in this area and that they are much more accepting of others' orientations. My oldest told me recently he's quite sure that same-sex marriage will be as common as interracial marriage in about 20 years. Just for the sake of group labeling in case anyone thinks that important: My youngest is a popular jock and my oldest is a conservative intellectual. I've had some interesting conversations with them and their friends, which I'm proud to say include straights, gays, and all colors of the ethnic rainbow.

Definitely, yes. The speed of the change is really amazing to me actually. Just 20 or 30 years ago, just being gay was reason enough to be arrested in some states. Today, most states have laws in place to protect gay people specifically from descrimination.
The very idea that 'gay marriage' might actually be a possibility worthy of consideration is a major positive change, all by itself. Such a discussion wasn't even conceivable in the 70s and 80s.
Today's generation of young people have much more liberal views on sexuality than prior generations. The 'Boomers' are really the last generation to be so descriminatory toward gays and lesbians. By the time they are dead and buried, it should be a non-issue.
**********************
Note: being gay is like having red hair or being left-handed, it has NOTHING to do with rape, beastiality, or child-molestation. Only straight, militant, repressed Christians do those things.

In some countries yes its becoming irrelevant but if your in a socially backward country with strong oppressive religious groups then it is still a problem.
The good thing is homosexuality was around 1000s of years before some of these religions and will be there for 1000s more, and in time these oppressive religions will die out as much of a force on peoples lives as people become more informed and better educated .

Yes, by and large, yes. The general population of the US is very accepting of Gays. IT is the lunatic fringe that makes a lot of noise, not the guys next door who are too busy making a living to worry about what will not be a part of their lives to a significant extent. Unfortunately, all my friends are Straight..sad, isn't it? and there is no one peep from these people. IN fact, sex is NOT an issue between friends, is it. People are people. I personally do not ask anyone about their sexual orientaion..I just don't care.

Ye Gods and Little Fishies, I hope so. It seems to a lot of the young adults that anyone else's sexuality is their own business. A love and let live policy on this would be an excellent idea.

I hope so, I think it's a positive societal revolution that has taken too long. People have to understand that when to consenting adults decide to have sexual relations, it's okay! Two words - consenting, adults - it's their own business, no one's getting hurt. I look forward to the end of this prejudice, it's about time.

I think it grows more important. As sexuality becomes more accepted and talked about, more people are curious about your sexuality.
In the old days, there was ONE sexuality. And no discussion. You were straight or dead.

of course so
in the future (40 years from now) people who feel that homosexuality is a sin are going to feel so dumb
just like people who were really racist in the 1940's and 1950's who are now in nursing homes, incredibly indignant that they are control and watched over (black nursing home nurses) by the race that they enjoyed dominance so long ago.
