I used to be around a lot of upper middle-class black kids all the time because of the school district I was in. I got picked on a lot because I was white.

Now I'm around a lot of poor black people who have actually had to face hardships in their lives and actually might have a right to be racist. And GUESS WHAT. THEY AREN'T RACIST!!!! THEY'RE SOME OF THE MOST ACCEPTING PEOPLE I KNOW!!!

Funny isn't it. Or maybe I'm just in an odd situation. Give me some feedback. Anybody have a different or similar experience they'd like to add?

Are you still around kids now, or around grown-ups?

Possibly it's not a matter of race and income, but a matter of maturity.

It is a strange phenomenon, though. Maybe the richer kids, like many richer kids, were "feeling their oats" and, like some rich whites, thought they had a right to be discriminatory toward you. (Poor whites, of course, have been no strangers to acting with discrimination, either.)

Possibly, though, you're among an older and more mature crowd.

Then again, sometimes hardships have a way of softening people and making them more compassionate.

There are good and bad people in every race, social class, occupation and part of the country. The word sterotype should be stricken from the English language.

I am white and have many African American friends. I moved to Wisconsin and people are so prejudiced up here. It's so behind the times. I have gotten into several HEATED arguments about the subject. Why can't people just see through the skin tone and try to judge according to what is INSIDE a person. Obviously your poor friends have great parents and have been raised right.

if in your case it's about race, in my country it's more on social class. some privileged people can be meaner than those who aren't (like corrupt officials paying poor people to vote for them in the elections). it's really surprising that those who are in the lower classes would be the first ones to give a helping hand, the ones who work harder to provide for their families. i haven't experienced anything of the sort yet but i think they're misrepresented in society.

not all black people are racist. so this isnt an odd situation maybe it's because of some poor people (not all black) can understand what people are going through. and dont say black people. you make it sound as if us "black people" have a disease. maybe it's you.

Sircumstance...racism exists regardless of wealth, standing, or whatever other aspects determine a persons position in society. I have met rich individuals who seemed to have no bias and poorer individuals who hated white people and vice versa. Bigottry has no barriers and has no color definitions. This is the simple fact.

no one is racist by birth. they get educated or socialized or stigmatized that way. glad to hear your own experience proves that. we need more people -- specially professionals like doctors, lawyers, nurses, speakers, teachers etc. to move to black neighborhoods and be active to change the picture. Good you brought an excellent view point.

i think its not about being racist on your case, its about the difference between upper middle class and poor people... its the status discrimination and pride of those who think they are better than others.
