First, congratulations!!!!! I am a mother of two with one more on the way. With my first child I just pretty much went from no labor to active labor and had my girl a few hours later. However, with my second child I was in labor for 30 days before I went into active labor. Sounds crazy but true. I lost my mucus plug (which is pretty gross by the way) and had sharp pain which only lasted a moment. I went to the hospital and I was 1/2 a centimeter dialated. I was sent home without any progress. I had a doctors app. every few days after that and each time I would be dialated a little bit more. I did not have much pain other than a sharp pain that would send me to my knees occasionally and only lasted a moment. I was finally told to go to the hospital by my doctor when I was 7 centimeters and they broke my water. Braking my water sent me into active labor. I had my son 12 hours later. An entire month and 12 hours passed from the onset to the birth. As you see I had 2 completely different experiences and my children were only 2 years apart. Now days they would not let you dialate over the course of a month, they would probably go ahead and induce. This was 15 years ago. So you see it could be 2 days or longer or shorter. There really is no set time and all births are different. As ready as I am sure you are, really the slower the better. A fast delivery is harder on your body. Just for the record though most people would go into active labor within a few days, so yes it could only take 2 days. I hope I did not scare you, my long labor with my 2nd child was a bit unusual. I just wanted you to see how drastic a difference there can be between women and even births. It would be nice if there was a set time frame.. lol. Just take it easy, keep up your strength, gets lots of rest right now, and pamper yourself. You will be holding your sweet baby before you know it. Good Luck

At 37 weeks I was dialated to 2, and 100% effaced. I didn't go into labor until 7 days later. My friend walked around dialated to 3 and 50% effaced for over a week until she went into labor. It could be anytime for you, or another week.

Based on that information - I'd say you have a way to go unless your water breaks. I was 4-5 cm 100% effaced @ 37 weeks - I kept working full time as a floor nurse in a hospital until I was induced at 42 weeks. I swear I'd probably still be pregnant had I not been induced. (By the way - my son is 22, so it's a good thing they did induce!)
For all we know, we still don't know exactly what causes labor to start. There are theories, but for each theory - there are enough exceptions to it - to make it invalid.
Good luck with your delivery (remember the word "epidural") - and love on that baby every day!

i was 1 cm and 80% at 36 weeks and I had to be induced after I was 5 days late...sorry it's not guarentee but this means if you do have to be induced you will likley be a good candidate (no c-section) because your body is gearing up for it. Either way you are havign a baby soon! Good Luck!
