I am very irritable, keep shouting at my wife and wee girl. My wife is threatening bodily harm if I don't calm down. Does anyone have any recomendations to keep calm and how long will this feeling last.

i have a good answer, and if you're a man, you can do it. just tell yourself, quit being a girl about it. it's just damn smoke. i smoked for 10 years and have been a marine for 4. the only time i have ever been able to quit was in afghanistan and then i started again after 6 mths and the last time in iraq. i quit dec 22 and haven't smoked since. here's the answer though. i just pictured myself telling my wife that i had cancer and i was going to die because of smoke. that's what cut our years short...smoke. sucks doesn't it. kiss your family goodbye for smoke. hope this helps.

Well done I gave up smoking 24 hours ago and I have been smoking for 45 years. Both ordinary ciggies and roll ups, was up to 30 to 40 a day, know what you are going through. When I feel as if I am about to burst I go into the garden until the craving has gone.
My biggest problem is what to do with my hands I keep wanting to pick something up.
I find getting up and doing something helps
Keep it up and who knows in a years time we can come back to this site and congratulate each other.

The withdraw symtoms from nicotine could take about 10 days to wear off. The first 24 hours are the worst, so you are beating it, stay with it. When you feel irritable go for a long walk or a slow jog, this will help get rid of the tension caused by nicotine withdraw. Do not go into situations that make you want to light up, ie ,the pub, mates who smoke. When the symtoms ware off you will be able to have a pint, chat to your smoking mates, and have no craving for tobbaco again. It,s good you are giving it up.

Think about the wife and wee girl. Avoid alchohol and places like pubs or where smokers are until you get a grip of it. I gave up 26 years ago after 3 attempts when my eldest daughter was 11 months old, it can be done but it takes determination and will power. Good luck its not easy but its worth while.

Just remind yourself that it is the nicotine withdrawal that is causing your bad mood - and remind your (somewhat less than supportive) wife too!
Spend some 'one on one' time with your little girl - it will both distract you and remind you of WHY you are doing it, after all, you want to see her grow up don't you?
If you haven't already - tell your wee lass that Daddy WANTS to stop smoking but it will make him get cross sometimes 'cos it's very hard, but if SHE helps you, you are sure you can do it...
Oh, good luck by the way...

I gave up 10 months ago, the feeling will come and go quite often to start with but it does get easy quite quickly. Just ride it out for 5 or ten minutes and try to keep occupied.

Slow down.
Take your mind of things.
Go for a walk.
Lie down.
Chew some gum, it keeps your brain focused on it actually.
Draw a picture, read a book...
Something that will make up lost time.

Yes, you should quit all together, and stay quit. Like a fool, I quit one time for a year, and started back, because I got mad at my ex. She left, but I still smoke. Take my advice, and don't smoke the first one.............you'll be gald you didn't! Good Luck!!
