Jo Verso used to design cross stitch patterns that were ideal for beginners - her Cross Stitch course book is available at Amazon for £1.75.

You could also try many of the cross stitch magazines - like Quick and Easy Cross Stitch, which often include basic instructions.

On the other hand, you could try searching the web - for free patterns visit Sue's Cross Stitch Freebie Finder, where you'll find thousands of free patterns of various levels of difficulty. Unfortunately, not all of the links work, and some are in different languages!

Good luck, enjoy - it's one of my favourite hobbies.

Why not just use the yahoo search engine. There are sites that tell you how to do it from scatch. Or Go to a craft shop and ask for a basic kit for a beginner and the instructions will all be in there. You won't have any problems i'm sure as cross stitch is very easy to do.

There is only really one stitch to learn.
If you buy a kit, it will come with all threads, aida (backing cloth), and instructions. This will include instructions for stitching.
Biggest tip is to use a frame, or else be very careful to use little tension when sewing.
When done, always get it framed professionally with a double or even treble mount - looks fantastic.
