The marriage day is important because it is a sacred ceremony for most that allows them to publicly solidify their relationship and share the love that they feel for one another with others that they care about. It is just a meaningful celebration of love. I agree though... $30,000 is ridiculous. In fact I think most people spend WAY too much on this day... while I understand it's special... you don't have to go into debt over it! Not a good way to start a marriage... with a huge amount of debt. And I don't think it makes the day any more special. I think a small and intimate and inexpensive ceremony/celebration is just as special... if not MORE special than an elaborate/expensive one. But to each her own. I just couldn't imagine putting my poor parents in debt, or myself in debt, over 1 day.

It's special becasue you only do it once in a lifetime with the love of your life. I am getting married in May 2007 and the wedding is costing us that much, to us it is not excessive, my fiance has a HUGE family to invite the Aunts and Uncle's alone and their kids..etc.. so we did the list and total of how many people we're going to have to invite is 170. We both work in the Mortgage Business and do well. So why not celebrate is this way that is including the honeymoon expense. So if this is the day you promise to be with one another for a life time and show it infront of your family and friends it's a memorable day if you ask me. We're not having our panrets pay for anything we're dishing it all out from our savings. So far the plans are going pretty well...

I agree that there should be a limit, but a wedding is a very big party for 2 people who have comitted to spending their lives together. The bonus is that you get to have the support of your loved ones and everything can make you feel like you're on top of the world.
I can't wait to get married. I know it's going to be a very special day!

Well I have to admit women are the big spenders and do'ers when it comes to their wedding day. I wouldn't know I had a backyard spur of the moment wedding my first time, paid for my second wedding.
I guess it stems from when we were little girls. We have planned and imagined this day for ever. I guess it may be feeling like a princess for one day. I don't believe in going broke to get married. I think we should spend more time thinking about what we want in a mate and a relationship. Instead of color patterns.
Next time it's flying to Vegas, baby.

The marriage day is done primarily for family and guests.
The bride and groom are usually burned out because of all the stresses of preparation. In some cases it is so bad that they really dont have a wedding night.

its the only major event you will ever have control over so don't be like those that don't. You have no control at birth and you won't when you die. But marriage, you can decide to have it special and inexpensive if you wish. But problem is....will the wife want a 2nd class wedding. She may want 1 st wedding. Now there you hope you married the right woman.

First off it is a WEDDING DAY...not Marriage day. Because, it is like a real step into adulthood. It is committing your life to someone else. It is a romantic time where you stand before you family and friends and profess your love for one another. It is a day every girl dreams off since she is 6 dressed in her mothers pearls with a white sheet on her head sing "here comes the bride"

Because to many people it is something very special. But at the same time they should put as much effort to make the marriage last!
