Ganguly was a better captain. As a player Dravid is good, but as a captain he looks a novice. I do not find the alertness of Ganguly in Dravid. Dravid seems to be a passive captain. Statistics also go in favour of Ganguly as given by some of the answerers.
Ganguly can make things happen whereas Dravid looks a mere pedestrian. Dravid lacks in decision making and looks like a dummy captain as you see in the games of Football and Field Hockey.
However it does not undermine the usefullness of Dravid as a batsman.

There's only 1 differnce b/w ganguly's & dravid's captancy,
In any series, whether world cup or tri series or champion's trophy Ganguly takes the team upto the final, but goes down in the final
Dravid either makes the team win in the final or goes down right in the begining of the series
Comparing I feel both have made a same impact on the team

Eventhough Dravid is the captain its Chappel who is controlling. So i feel Dravid has to take his own initiatives to prove that he is a better captain. He is a good player and he is the wall but that doesnt mean that he has to be the opener of the match.Thats where i find Dravid ineffective. He has to take his own decision.
Even if Ganguly is an angry person and has some bad characters he was a good aggressive captain.
Sachin Tendulkar has to be the model for everyone.
See how good his character after being the most successfull senior player after Kapil Dev and still aggressive

The statistics of Mr. Gangulyand Dravid as Captains are as follows:
TEST MAGTCHES:
--------------------------
PLAYED WON LOST NO RESULT
----------- -------- --------- ----------------
GANGULY 49 21 13 15
DRAVID 17 5 4 8
ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL
-------------------------------------
PLAYED WON LOST NO RESULT
----------- -------- ------- -----------------
GANGULY 141 73 63 5
DRAVID 12 5 6 1
Considering the above statistics, I feel it is not at all fair to compare the captaincy of Dravid with Ganguly as Dravid
has captained only very few matches till now. Comparison between 2 persons will be fair when both becomes on the same level. Even comparing the above statistics, I do not feel that Dravid has done badly as compared to Ganguly

I would pick Ganguly any day as Dravid is too much of a GENTLEMAN and too much of a nice guy.
Ganguly by far has been the best captain not because of his success rate but because of his attitude and the killing instinct.
My belief is that ganguly is worth his weight in the team only by his sheer need to win and nasty attitude.
Something like the Australians.......anybody who can piss Steve waugh off gets my vote..........
Ganguly as Captain Yes.... anyday..... As a player no way////

According to stats ganguly had a higher percentage of wins than dravid so that makes him more successful captian, also I agree with you that ganguly was aggressive while dravid is calm that is a good combination for a captain and vice captain.

Dravid because he gets the players going just by tapping them off and not like shouting at them like Ganguly.
