a. The record age for one of these critters is 146 years, which means there's probably one out there somewhere, right now, born in 1860.

This was exactly the same year as the first Rolling Stones tour.

I've always wondered whether this bivalve and the band have forged some kind of telepathic alliance, so that every time the Stones are on tour, the clam sticks its tongue out an extra two inches.

b. I love their scientific name, 'panope generosa'.

It just sounds like it might mean something cool, on the level of 'Carpe Diem' or something like that. 'Embrace Generosity', maybe. Hell, if I was a guy wearing a toga 2,000 years ago, i'd be Panope Generosa-ing anyone in earshot. 'Panope Generosa'. Try it. See? Don't you feel instantly more noble?

c. I've never had the phrase 'is that a geoduck in your pants, or are you just pleased to see me?' uttered to me.

Yet my soul yearns for it.

Geoduck...hmmmm...does not compute. Umm my guess is that they taste salty and maybe explode if you agitate them? Reminds me of that scene from one of those Vacation movies with the sausage being served. Or maybe that episode of that 70s show where breakfast consisted of sausage and tang (well the mother never understood why that was funny). So fess up,,,are these a creation of that fascinating mind of yours? Freud must be giggling like a little schoolgirl.

They are Puget Sound phallic symbols. But they look rather like hard shell turds to me.
