China has a long history, so I can give only bare outlines here. Native Emperors ruled for centuries, except twice when foreigners conquered the land. First were the Mongolians under Genghis Khan. Eventually, these rulers lost their strength and were ejected by the Chinese. In 1644, the Manchurians conquered China and replaced the Ming Dynasty with the Ching Dynasty. In 1912, Sun Yat-Sen overthrew the child Emperor Pu Yi and established the first Republic of China. It lasted only 40 days. Then, the Warlord Regime began. China was divided into many small areas ruled by local warlords. Sun's protege Chiang Kai-Shek proved to be more able than his master and took over in time. Mao was exiled and took the Long March. He eventually ousted Chiang in 1947. Chiang fled to Formosa now Taiwan that is called the Republic of China. Mainland China is the People's Republic.

Greetings!
China was an open country, raped and pillaged by every capitalistic country in the World.
The country was decimated by the Japanese prior and during WWII. They were killed in the hundreds of thousands as their cities were bombed day and night.
Had the US not eventually created a distraction, they would have cleansed the Country.
Also women who gave birth to females promptly took them to the river and drowned them.
As a rebuilding effort took place Mao led the communistic faction and though some may not approve of his politics, he was able to nationalize his country.
For their size, abundance of natural resources, they may be one of the few places on earth most suited for communism.

China had a monarchy at one point. Beijing was considered the Forbidden City as only the Royal Family of China, the courtiers and their personal servants could enter the gates
