Colas have an acid pH, and the mentos have a base pH. When you put the two together, they react.
You can do the same with baking soda and vinegar. Pour a little baking soda on a spoon. Add some vinegar. Watch what happens.

It is the combination of Citric Acids, and Carbonated Water......
Also to that to do another Science Project. ( get a 1 litre bottle of coke a pack of refreshers open the coke bottle, then open one end of the packet of refreshers push them in to bottle quick, screw lid on, and watch the bottle fly. OPEN SPACE REQUIRED lol
