What do animal cells have which fulfills the same purpose as the cell wall does in plant cells?

The cell membrane basically fulfills the same purpose in animal cells as the cell wall in plant cells. However the cell membrane only seperates the interior of the cell from its surroundings but a cell wall of a plant cell acts more as protection for the interior of the cell.
