Oakland WON their division and Detroit is the Wild Card. It sucks, but that's what the Tigers get for slumping in the 2nd half. Win the division next time around. The Tigers proved themselves by beating the Yankees, now beat those A's. From a Red Sox and Twins fan.

Any team that wins there division will always host the wildcard team, Oakland was the winner of the AL West division and the Tigers are the wildcard team. Had the Tigers held onto the Central they would be hosting

Beacause the Tigers did not win the Central Division they went into the playoffs as the wildcard. With the A's being division champs they get the home advantage
