I've had my car for around 6 months, it was a year old ex-demo. Recently the brakes have started squeaking and also, when moving off, balancing the clutch with accelerator (especially when going up-hill) it lets out a loud squeal. Any ideas? It is a Toyota Yaris if you need to know! Thnx.

Alot of people I know have said brake pads, it is only when I brake. But that doesn't explain the clutch, does it? I am unsure, I am a new driver!

Hi,

Brakes first...2 possibilities, first on most asian make cars they have a design that makes a squealing noise when your brake pads need replaced. This is instead of the wee light in the dashboard because most people still drive along for months with the light on, this system makes a squealing noise from the front brakes when you apply the brakes, this makes you want to go to a garage and get it repaired, BUT, it could just be a build up of brake dust that needs cleaned out by a mechanic, easy peasy job.
Clutch.. Hard to say without hearing it, sounds like the previous owner was a bit of a "clutch rider" and has worn out the clutch thrust bearing. Probably need the clutch replacing im afraid.
Hope this helps...

this is unusual, me thinks you use the brakes too much and possibly don't use the clutch correctly, pump the brakes to a stop and never keep your foot on the clutch any longer then you need to, never leave your foot on the clutch, you arn't entering drag races with this car are you? toyotas a very good cars, but the yaris is kinda new and maybe has a clutch design problem (check for recalls)

what a load of waffle! break squal is down to loads of things but the most common fault is because of the brake pad wearing unevenly and instead of the friction being taken up by the friction surface on the brake pad it is instead rubbing on the metal part of the brake pad. the trouble is why it is wearing unevenly! sticking brake caliper, or only braking on one side (by the way 70-80% of vehicle braking is done on the front of the vehicle) theres lots of reasons u have to find out why. as far as the clutch is concerned the squeal is done because of wrong use of the clutch, your pulling off in the wrong gear or changing up too fast, the only thing that clutch control does is cause premmature wear of the friction plate and other clutch components!

In maximum extra contemporary autos there's a steel element that because of the fact the brakes start to become worse comes nearer and nearer to the brake disk. because it touches the disk, it creates an horrendous sound that reminds you to alter your brakes. Ususally it fairly is a gaggle of bullsh*t to maintain the brake human beings in corporation. yet once you have in no way had your brakes achieved, then pay interest. otherwise, coach your coloration tree mechanic to throw that element away, as maximum will, whilst he places the recent brakes on your vehicle.

You need new brake pads. dont wait of you will wreck the rotors The clutch problem is the throw out bearing. Keep driving until you cant stand it. it cost lots to fix. trany must come out. Hay is it under warranty?? make the dealer fix it.

sounds like you neeed a set of brake disc pads and anti squeal shims, as for the clutch sounds like you need a new thrist bearing and pressure plate fitting. make sure you are sat down when they tell you the cost of having the jobs done

claire,
the noise you are getting from your brakes is dust believe it or not, as your pads wear they deposit dust on the calipers/squeal shims etc, this causes vibration and you end up hearing the squeling, it will not effect your braking in any way, and will in time dissapear, your clutch im not so sure about, but if its not slipping dont worry about it, stop racing away from the lights(haha)

the brakes are nothing to worry about, it's usually just dust that makes them squeek. not overly sure about the clutch, they don't normally squeal as a rule

you probably need new breaks, its is possible to need to replace your break pads after one year. your clutch noise is because your feathering the clutch basically what your doing is making it slip just enough so you don't go anywhere. its very hard on the clutch to do that and will not last as long as it should. the clutch need to be engaged or disengaged not forcefully slipped.

If your brakes squeak only when you brake then it means your pads are worn out and needs replacing. If they squeak intermitently then you brake components such as bushings and pivot points will need lubricating.
