This is a good site for resort reviews:

Lots of helpful info written by fellow travelers so you get the good and the bad, not just what the travel agents are trying to sell you.

The Mayan Riviera area is such a vast stretch of the coastline there. There are several hotels I use in this area. With all that I love and use frequently not all of them match up with the same people. They never do.

This is why we ask so many questions of clients to determine which we feel will be there best matched property to give them there ideal vacation!

Some properties are large, small, active, intimate, laid back, more luxurious, deluxe but not to over the top, some very far from the Cancun airport, etc. So for me to give you a list of my favorite properties really wouldn't do you good, because truly what might be right for your neighbor might be not right for you at all. That is why friends recommendations aren't bad mind you, but keep in mind that this property as great of time they had. You may not have the same feeling or experience.

Feel free to email me and I can send you my contact info. I could ask you a few questions and then feel confident in suggesting a property to you!

No matter how you go about then in booking this I do hope you have a fantastic time in Mexico!

Your best bet is to go to a bookstore and purchase a Frommer's guide to Cancun and the Riviera Maya. My hubby and I spent our honeymoon in an adult-only (NOT nudist, just no kids allowed) all-inclusive near Puerta Aventura, and had a great time (once we got the right room, long story). Mark a few resorts that might accomodate your needs, then take that book to a travel agent and see what s/he can do for you. Using an agent is nice, but they'll need a starting point, and a lot of them will just send you off somewhere because they got a big goody-bag on their scouting tour. This is what happened to us-- the agent had an ad for a brand new, all inclusive resort really cheap in February, and said she thought it was great when she was there. When we got there we found that it was STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION! Truth is, there are a lot of great new resorts down there, all still under construction. If you get a really cheap rate, guess what... Make sure that the resort in question is at least three yrs old...

A really neat place we wished we'd visited was Ixcaret-- it's an eco-park! Here's a link to a resort nearby you might find interesting...

We just came back from Cancun at the beginning of the month and had a great time. We stayed at the Gran Caribe Real. There was not one thing we could complain about and I mean not one thing. We are planning another trip for June and wouldn't stay anywhere else. www.tripadvisor.com is a great website that has lots of reviews of the hotels and actual photos from real traveler's. Hope you have a great time.
