I miss Walter Cronkite and he was not exactly what you could call eye candy. Who ever I get the news from, I want to feel like the person presenting it has a brain in their head and understands something about what they're talking about. If they're just going to read it I'll turn off the set and read the news on Yahoo myself.

If they are good looking and not intelligent, why would we want to watch?

Read about Dorothy Fuldheim (1893-1989), the FIRST "First Lady of Television News". A newscaster/analyst who worked until age 91 at a tv station in Cleveland Ohio. She interviewed several Presidents and many prominent people.

Kingstubborn would have called her a "dried out old hag". Not a real attractive lady, but she was very smart. She'd put these current day newscasters to shame. I guess back then, they were hired for their qualifications and not looks.

Not all news people are attractive. Most are though. The media looks for the whole package most of the time. It's television - can you blame them?

why is this in politics?
TV prefers pretty over substance like too many people do these days.
some few really good but not so pretty have great jobs but its near impossible.
if many people write and complain they want substance not fluff will make it change. its kept a few average looking but good news people around in the past

Definitely.

The news is bad enough without it coming from some dried-out old hag as well.

No, not especially. Actors don't have to be good looking either, but it certainly can't hurt!
