There's something about poems used for that purpose that is just kind of "off".
Maybe go to the card shop and find one of those cards that someone else wrote some verse for. You know - not the "Thinking of You" cards, but the ones that you skip by when you're shopping for a birthday card for someone. They have big, long, verses in them that are really, really, specific.
Another thing, though, is sometimes the tiny little card that is at the bottom of the rack and has just one line or two on it is perfect.
Another thing may be to buy her some song that has just the right words.
Somehow if someone gave me a poem it would just creep me out and make me re-think this person. That's probably just me, though....

i like this one:
"What Hurts the Most "
When you see the one you love,
With the one they love.
Telling someone how you feel about them,
And they don’t feel the same about you.
Wanting someone so bad,
But you just can’t have them.
When you'll do anything for them and they don’t even give a ****.
Loving someone for a long time,
But they just want to friends or less.
Trying your hardest to get there attention,
But it just didn’t work!
Being rejected by the one you trust in most.
Going to sleep thinking about them,
Knowing they’re thinking of someone else.
And having your heart broken...by the person you truly care for!!!
What hurts the most...?
and
“Not just a WORD”
We all use this word LOVE
It doesn’t discriminate from young to old
So what does this word really mean?
To some it may be a materialistic possession
Something we know will give us those new shoes or earrings
To others it’s much more… but what?
Is it what you say when you want someone to stay to not go hoping that this unique emotion will bind them and not go?
But if this is the case why do so many of us use this word yet fail to stay together?
Is it the way we take balm off our selves?
But I love you” we argue
How much more can this word really stay in our lives as something precious when we use it so much and it is now associated with such pain and agony
The Webster dictionary says this about love
“Affection; passion; delight; the main cause for passion.”
But what does this mean?
Do hit them do we put them down is it an act of selfishness?
Is it the act of hurting the one we profess our love to?
What really does love entitle?
What does it motivate us to be like or to do?
One woman recalls the change in another woman when she proclaimed her love for god
“she changed she became kinder, she had a smile on her face at all times she who ones spoke harsh was now speaking soft with undeserved kindness even to those that hurt her she was forgiving to them and asked them what she could do for them, even if it inconvenienced her…”
So is this how real love should make us act, change for the better?
The Webster dictionary says this about the word change,
“To do differently when we learn or fell something new, a new view, to put in effect.”
So then should love motivate you to change?
The next time we catch ourselves saying I love you to someone anyone stop think why what for has it changed you? Or is this just a word we us and not an emotion that moves us to change to become better
Have you changed?
We should ask ourselves this the next time we catch our selves using such a unique emotion not just a WORD.

I am woman and personally, I think love poems and all that cheese is silly and a turn-off, but I can't speak for all women. All I am saying is that you shouldn't fall for all that BS you see on T.V. etc about all women liking that sort of thing. Anyway, suppose that she does like poetry. If it is written by another man for another women then it useless to you. Honesty is foremost to most people and she would probably be most touched if you were to just express yourself without having to format it into rhyming couplets.

Ok, this poem comes from the movie Leprechaun 3. She will fall head over heals for you when you tell her this love poem.
There once was a lady of Totten,
Whose tastes grew perverted and rotten.
She cared not for steaks,
Or for pastries and cakes,
But lived upon penis au gratin

How do I love thee ? Let me count the ways. by Elizabeth Browning
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,--I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life !--and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
