A touton...(pronounced -- the tout part rhymes with bout- so tout-on)...is a piece of uncooked bread dough that you fry in butter on both sides, till golden brown, so the outside has a buttery crust and the inside is soft and warm....a heavy pan ,like cast iron is best....It is usually oval shape , about 4 inches and you cut (and shape uncooked dough to that length and about 1/2 inch thickness, the dough rises to about 1 inch , as it is cooking....the secret is not too thick, not too thin..so it will cook properly. When my Mom and grandmother made bread, we would always have some as a snack or sometimes with a meal...I don't make bread but sometimes I will buy the frozen bread loves, let them rise and fry some myself...not quite the same but not bad....one girl I used to work with...did something similiar but she called them fried biscuits...

I am in Oklahoma City and have no idea what a "touton" is. I am curious so I will watch for other answers and for your post.

There are alot of definitions on a search but I'm sure it is none of those.
