I just went to the gyno, and this is what she told me.
You have to go in order to get birth control. You can only get that with a prescription. However, you do not have to get your first pap smear until you are 21 or 3 years after losing your virginity. The only exception is if you are having some kind of problem down there (pain, a lot of itching, etc.).
It used to be 18 for everyone, but they recently decided that that was unnecessary.

I think it depends on you personally. I know when I first got my period my mother gave me the option of when I turned 18 or started having sex, whichever came first. Generally, your family doctor can do the same thing (when you have a yearly physical), but for me, I had my tests come back abnormal so my doctor sent me to a gyn. I had been seeing him for about 4 years, but he has since left where he practised and I'll be returning to my family doctor this year for mine.

Well when i got my first period my mom thought she should take me to see a gyn doctor but when she asked her doctor, she just said to bring me in if i'm having a problem with any womenly issues or if i start having sex. But otherwise, the doc said that i should just be fine.

if you are going to have sex or already started having sex you need to go to the gyn. no matter what age and have your vagina looked at and at least a pap smear. but other wise 18 years isthe best age you should start going to a gyn. have fun ~just kidding~

My daughter is staring to go soon.
She's 16 and mature.
A girl must be almost fully developed in order to go to the gynecologist.
She might want to take extra precaution of what it will be like too.
