i have a optiplex 170l 2.8gh p4 1gb sdram, this comp does not have pci e slot so i was thinking to buy another motherboard and i found this one : MSI MATX RC410M-L SATA PCI-E x16 MotherBoard

If you are planning to use it for games skip the board with onboard video... also your current motherboard is most likely a socket 478:

which is being phased out. The motherboard you are looking at is a socket LGA775, your CPU won't work in it. I would purchase a new motherboard and CPU. You might also have to shell out for new DDR2 RAM if you go with Intel. A Core 2 Duo 6300 and motherboard would be the way to go if you have the $$$ otherwise you might go with AMD....

The socket compatibility is an issue. I would suggest downloading and running this software:http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
to determine what type of socket you have now, if you do have socket 478 you will have to replace your CPU if you buy this motherboard. Other than that, it is a good motherboard. You would also need new RAM as the previous answerer said.
