I had a 1995 buick skylark but the head cracked in 2 places. water pump or thermostast went out. Another head is being put on it. Should I keep it or buy the 98 ford taurus with 187000 miles on it.Skylark has 170000 miles on it. I heard even if the head is fixed they are never the same and constantly tear up after that

Who ever gave you the advice about the engine always tearing up after head work or replacement is dead wrong. The ford has way to many miles on it, unless you can document the service record and number of owners don't buy it. Have the compression checked on your buick by a reputable mechanic, if he says it's good, keep the buick otherwise shop for another car.

Both are going to be money pits. The Skylark is going to need new rod bearings at least, your motor must of got pretty hot after the water pump went out, that is why the head cracked. The Taurus if it is cheap enough ( less than $800 ) would be a better short term answer.

Dang, that is a LOT of milage for a '98. Personally I've never liked Ford cars, ESPECIALLY with that kind of milage on it. My advice is, buy the Ford ONLY if you're getting a really good deal for it. Otherwise, stay with your Buick.

i would take my chances on the skylark before i bought a ford, especially a taurus. at the shop i work at i could swear it is a ford dealer due to the amount that have to be repaired.also avoid newer chryslers they aint much better.in my experiances your best bet would be a toyota or a honda.they are very dependible cars that will last a long time if taken care of. i have seen them with 300k or more on them and still run like new due to proper maintenance.

Both vehicles are tired. Recommend against the Ford though. It's just a personal preference,, :-)=

It completely depends on the history of that individual vehicle. Does the seller have documented records of repairs? Did you take it to a mechanic to check it out? If not, it's a gamble.
