I think his receiving the Order of Merit is rather strange as it was the first classless honour and was awarded solely for good works. He wouldn't be doing his good works were it not for who he married. He was promoted from Lieutenant to Admiral (a big jump), and also made a Field Marshal and Air Marshal because he is the Queen's consort even though he was never in the army or air force.

Still, most Russian WW2 vets have more medals than he does and wackjob-of-the-month Kim Jong Il is the world's only 'seven star general' so don't be too hard on Philip.

These are mostly meaningless, some of them from his wife.
Even better, ask what Prince Charles's medals are for. He's never been anywhere near a war.
I think it's demeaning to the real soldiers.

Anyone who is royalty is bound to have enough gold and silverware to make a Christmas tree look poor. As for winning the war single handedly... let it not be said that he, and the queen for that matter, both did their bit. How many wars have you served in?

It goes to show the value of what he wears!

It devalues the deeds of truly great service-men/women.

Phil the Greek couldn't win a bag of sweets for being polite let alone WWII. Thanks for the laugh.
