This is a question only YOU can answer. If you feel you are ready to be in a relationship and not project your old feelings onto the new person and you can handle it, then go for it. If you still find yourself resenting men or having negative feelings toward them, it's not the time because the new male doesn't deserve that treatment because of the old male. If you would like to get into it slowly, why not do some things with groups including married and single people? Perhaps a hobby you have always wanted to explore, but didn't have time to pursue before. That way, you are learning and building yourself as well as possibly meeting someone with common interests. Best wishes to you.

It sounds like dating should be the least of your problems right now. How are you feeling? You've gotta be feeling down, after 7 years in a bad realtionship. Try to build up your self-confidence and self-esteem first. Hang out with your friends, find a new hobby, exercise. Keep your mind and body occupied. Get help for depression if needed. There's not set amount of "time" that you should be waiting to date again; the only concern would be that when you're desperate to fill the void in your life, you're vulnerable to being taken advantage of, and falling into the same trap again.

I don't think there's an ideal amount of time to wait before starting to date again. That should be totally up to you and how you feel about starting over. If you are ready then get out there and enjoy meeting new people. Just be careful not to get involved with anyone too quickly. Take your time and find someone who treats you with respect and cares about your feelings. It's better to be alone than to feel lonely in a relationship or to be treated badly.

Do you feel like dating again? I've been outta a relationship for 1 year now. He treated me like crap also. I'm still not ready for a relationship again because I really don't want to get hurt all over again. But I know I can't keep being scared of this, there is a guy out there for each and everyone of us. It just takes time. But then again maybe you're stronger than I am.

I agree that this is a question that YOU need to answer for yourself however I will share my thoughts. :)
I too was in a bad realationship for many years. I dated someone too soon afterward and he was a GREAT guy and I ended up hurting him and getting rid of him because I wasn't ready. I was still so insecure, self-loathing, scared and a lot of other unpleasant emotions all rolled into one. I still wonder what would have happened between us had I waited until I was better. Right now you need to take time to yourself and begin loving YOURSELF again. Take time out for YOU and get to know yourself again. When you are in an abusive relationship the other person basically sucks the life out of you. You need to get control of your life again and think about what you want and don't want out of your next relationship.
You will know when you're ready! Take care of yourself and good luck!

Take a deep breath first. I was in one for 6 years myself, and started dating a bit too soon, 'cause I hadn't given myself time to recover, and couldn't seem to do anything right. Wiser people than me helped by explaining that I have to step back, think of what I was missing in the last relationship, what I was not giving or doing right in it, and not look for a gf, but just casual stuff like we do right here on this site. Remember, you did not do anything wrong here, OK? Life doesn't promise us perfection. You'll be surprised what 's in store for you. Like they say, yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, and today is a gift---- that is why it's called "the present". Hope this helped a little. LUV, R

Best way to forget jerks is to get right back into the making friends scene again.
Try not to let his bad boy ways interfere with your happiness , no matter what.
Dig deep within yourself and find out what makes you tick inside once again and find an interest that will best bring this out. The next step is to find an interest group that will share your most delicate and important thoughts and chances are very good that you'll find the next person in your life too here.
Don't wait. Waiting only makes your mind wander and your thoughts about the past resurface again. Best to move on and forget the bad.
We only want to remember the positive people in our lives when it really comes down to it.

I don't think there is a set amount of time. The only way you'll find someone who will realize how special you are, and love you for who you are, is to get out there and find him. Look for a gentleman, someone who will treat you the way you want and need to be treated. Don't settle for second best, because you deserve THE best. Don't forget that, and you'll do just fine. Be up front with the guys in your life, and tell them exactly what you are looking for, and what type of relationship you want. Best of luck.
