It seems these days people go emo to fit in to a certain group of people. So why do you want to fit in like that. Has the teens' crave for popularity gone to far?

Of course that is all it has ever been.

Like any other teen subculture that there has ever been or will ever be.

"oohh we're all so different... let's all go do the same thing to show how different we are..."

PS You're name is pretty funny.

Ha ha...I don't know why some parents think this "style" is so loathsome? I'm a mother of a 15 year old and some of the stuff she wears would be considered emo I guess. She also cut her hair ...very short in back, longer in front and dyed it black. It's just a phase and I actually think she has a very good fashion sense, after all, when I buy clothes for myself I always take her along as my fashion consultant. lol.

There are worse styles than "emo". I hated the baggy pants hanging way below the top of guys' underwear. Now that was really pathetic.

OK!! IM SICK OF ALL THIS "EMO" TALK!!
I have been called emo.. Some say I am emo.. and it's driving me insane!! Emo is not a word to describe anyone as. Emo means "Emotive Hardcore" a type of music.

Even though some of you label freaks label me as "emo" I do not cut myself, am not always depressed and mope around.. and all those other things you say about "emos".

I am a 15 year old girl, likes to wear interesting (or weird) clothes. I love piercings (although i only have 4) I wear alot of black and eyeliner, because i think i look good in it. My hair is dyed black cause I don't like my natural color of light brown. umm... Im usually hyper and happy and all that. Im random and all that good stuff. Yet soem people still call me "emo" cause of how I dress and my haircut I guess. It's pathetic!!!

But I do have one other thing to say. the "emo" group is usually not one of the groups to get in trouble. as most believe. some parents are all worried that their sons or daughters will turn "emo" and they're scared... It humors me!

ps. Also the daughter of "dellajoy" the answerer above me. And I agree.. The baggy pants style is nasty!!! And i hate all the bling bling "ganster" style crap. But that's my opinion.

A lot of teenagers will do whatever it takes to fit in to whatever 'niche' they can get into. Emo seems to be a group that isn't as selective as the jocks, or the nerds... It's pretty easy to be emo. Personally, I think it's a sign of weak self confidence to change yourself in order to fit into a group, I was just always myself. But not everyone is as self assured as I am.

(P.S. Being myself got me into the nerd group, in case you're wondering.)

i don't really know many emo kids and it certainly isn't a way to fit in. just be who you want and don't give a $hit about what other ppl think besides some of the emo kids are posers

Its an excuse for kids to be whiney lil brats and complain about life, and think they have a reason to be depressed and stressed. Also, they can't find their own identity, or are too scared to be themselves for fear of being rejected and not fitting in, so they latch on to the latest cool thing to be.

Emo is goth but even more depressing. Where are the new age hippies, isn't this the time they came out again.

Sure have it was like the days of punks,or skin heads.
I think if only they really took a good look at themselves in a mirror, and asked themselves is anyone going to employ me if i went for a job?
It is a social exspession to say look at me im different little do they know the society sure is saying that, as they look stupid.they look as if they have been posessed by the devil

I personally, am an emo. we are just like everyone else. if u asked me or any other emo why we do it, we have no answer. its not neccesarily that we're depressed about life, we're just, i dont really know. i do kinda want to be goth, but i guess being emo proves to myself that i'm tough. im the only girl in my hockey league and i need to be tough. i guess i just have to prove it to myself and others.

if thats who you really are and how you feel you should express yourself, go ahead. but chances are if someone decides to be "emo" theyre probably too insecure to show thier real colors so they think this way people will notice them and think theyre unique. but honestly, how does it make you unique if you wanna be emo just because everyone else is?
