The problem is really with the ex partner and it never ceases to amase me that people will use their children to try to punish each other. Why not suggest they go to family mediation and try to sort out this problem like adults. She needs to see that the kids need to have a relationship with their father but that he is completely allowed to have a relationship with someone else too. You need to be very understanding because the children's mother obviously feels threatened by you and frightened that you will start wanting to be their 'mum' too so you must do whatever you can to reassure her.

In mediation the two of them will be able to explore the issues they face and to reach a compromise. Most mediators make couples write down this compromise some will even check that everything is OK later on.

Hopefully by taknig this route he gets to see his kids, she gets the reassurance she needs and you get to keep a fun relationship. Good luck.

It is very difficult for older women to make a break from an unsatisfactory relationship mainly because of the fear of being alone. If the man is in a genuine dilema concerning his children then you should end it and let him sort his life out. It does sound odd that your friendship with him is being brought into the equation if you met him long after he split with the other woman. I think you are being taken for a fool. Tell him to go away ...for ever.

hun, listen to what people are saying... especially your friends. Maybe they can see things you can't.
If you think it is your friends that are playing you for a fool, try figure out in what way, then turn the tables on them.
You'll come out on top and they will just think their plotting blew up in their faces
