does anyone else think that there should be a "because i said so" proof? i hate these things so much- it is not like they are hard, they are just so TEDIOUS!

Well, I don't know about the "because I said so" proof, but certainly I could agree to the "because somebody like Euclid already proved this many, many years ago, and you are just giving lots of busy work asking me to prove it again. Why didn't you just pay attention the first time rather than asking me to prove it for you? In the meantime, I'll just remember the formula and use that any time you ask for the answer."

Some of them are difficult concepts to understand, but the world could not function without real proofs.
Wiles: "I've solved Fermat's Last Theorem"
Friend: "What's your proof?"
Wiles: "I said so"

I think proofs are important because they make you think about what you know and what leads to what.
The more you practice, the better you will get - and then you will like them.

that is like saying: i don't see the beauty of something, i just destroy it, crumple it, get rid of it. some things need work to understand. if you don't f.i. play chess, there is no way you can see the beauty of chess problems. mathematics is like that. you cannot understand it unless you invest in it. but hey., it is not anybodies game...
