Sporozoa are unicellular obligate intracellular parasites of higher animals. As such they absorb nutrients through their cell membrane directly from the cytoplasm of the host cell, and release waste products through their membrane into the host cell. The best known sporozoa are those in the genus Plasmodium, which cause the various forms of malaria.
