anti gambling. I have heard that the Government is to ban all US on line gambling sites. What is their problem? Gambling is the least of their problems. Bush and the religious right need to calm down!

Taxes.

P.S.
For whoever gave me the thumbs down, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing I'm only stating my answer mate.

Furthermore, the US Department of Justice insists Internet gambling violates 1961 legislation called the Wire Act, which was aimed at organised crime and outlaws the use of phone lines to place bets across state lines - again tax avoidanace.

Horse races, lotteries, & bingo are all legal and don't fall under the Wire Act.

Until the law changes online gambling conflicts with established law. It's not agreeable but it's our system of justice which sometimes seems like it could eat it's young for breakfast.

Cheers,

pup

they can't tax it so they don't want it. Not to mention the social problem of people addicted to gambling. Lost work productivity because people gamble on-line at work. Ignore the kids and spend their food money gambling on-line -- see a problem with that scenario? Some people go way overboard gambling and gambling on-line. It's a sickness. And the government wants to stop it and especially since they get no tax revenue from it.

They have to be anti-gambling because they are pro-capitalist. They can't justify having a socialist model of gambling, and thus corporations would take over the bussiness...

In Finland we have a state-supervised monopoly in gambling where 100% of the profits go to public welfare and healthcare. The company is really self-restrictive and aims to prevent gambling addiction, so it is holding itself back.

As above its all about money, the US govt's spending on various wars etc has put them massively in debt to the point of collapse, they need to ensure any money in the country stays there and gets taxed to continue with the fighting.

Taken from http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 10 Oct 2006 at 09:11:43 PM GMT is: $ 8,553,819,501,868.03 (edit: 8 trillion)

The estimated population of the United States is 299,669,976
so each citizen's share of this debt is $28,544.13.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$1.66 billion per day since September 30, 2005!

Gambling profits are huge and as you can see they need every penny they can get, allowing US citizens to spend their money how they like, ie on cheaper tax free websites, is bad for their govt plans.

All of you out there who have a negative view of Americans, Read some History you won't listen? How many Americans have died for a lot of you and are buried in your cemeteries? Most of you weren't even born yet, It's so easy for you to forget how we got where we are now, your grandmothers and Grandfathers know. It's mostly in the younger generation that they don't understand, Why is it that most of the time it's the U.S. that comes to the aid of a country. I am not talking about the Brits. I'm talking about the French, the Philippians and all who dislike the U.S.

I agree with the person who said it causes serious debt. The most common gambler is often those who cannot afford to gamble in the first place. We don't need to increase poverty, it's already a big enough problem here.

okay im not sure i agree with you that the US is anti gambling.
but if you want to strengthen your credibility.....try not to blame the religious right for everything. because that is nothing but an echo of the "secular left".
