9th graders are what, 14 or 15? And old enough to get pregnant? Sure. But let me offer a suggestion, if I may. You might want to tackle the premise that liberals are aborting themselves right out of political power. Here's how it goes. Liberals have way more abortions that conservatives. Therefore, liberals have fewer kids. Conservatives have more kids. Compare the birth rates between Vermont and Utah. When kids grow up they tend to vote like their parents. Conservatives increase, liberals decrease. I bet your liberal teacher will have a cow with that one!

Oooh...good question. Freshman year or ninth grade high school, many might not be ready to write a paper about abortion. Not too mention you might have the principal, other faculty, and parents of the students worried about what you are trying to teach. I know you have a good purpose to want the students to research abortion, but you could get yourself in trouble. My advice: Ask the prinicipal, and then give the students the decision of doing the topic or another that is more along the school guide lines.

Leen says no because your a ninth grader, i guess ninth graders can't get pregnant. Yes, you should write about abortion, but if it is a paper about abortion and not your beliefs on abortion, you can't put your opinion in it whether you are for it or not. Many kids fail because they introduce themselves into the paper. Just give what it is, statistic on how many abortions are there a year, and other things. Make sure you put down sources as well.

If you feel you could be completely objective about the topic... a research paper should not have a particular spin one way or the other. It should simply represent facts about a topic. Do you think you can address this highly charged subject with complete objectivity? (that means you have to look at the facts and opinions from all sides and represent them fairly and objectively)
Personally, for research, I would focus on something less volatile.
I also would like to second the motion to go for something more original... lots of people go for the most obvious topics.

I think this is a godo topic, make sure you have information both in favor of and against abortion.... this is a controversial issue, but then again, what important issue isn't controversial?
One thing that makes this topic relevant is that when teens (including high school students) get pregnant, it is difficult for them to support their baby (financially, emotionally, do they give up school for motherhood?).... so such people will definitely consider abortion, whether they have it done or not is another matter.

Yes - it is a good age group for kids to start learning about abortion and pregnancy and such. I say it is a great topic, it just might be hard for some kids to understand and to write about, but I am confident it can be done.

No. It's too controversial of a topic. Abortion is a very touchy subject and you have to have a very mature approach to it. Also, what if your teacher disagrees with your views about it. You should try and do something not so controversial.

No, do something that hasn't been done a million times. I have lost count of how many people in my classes that have done papers about abortion. Try a local issue in your community. Try to be creative.

Why wouldn't it be? Sounds like a very good subject and one that would test your research and debating ability quite well. Also it is a topic that is always up for debate on many levels.
