I had an interview about 8 weeks ago for a part-time position. Two weeks later I called and they thanked me for calling to inquire about the job, but that they had put a slight delay in the interview process to hire for more pertinent positions, but that they would finish the interviews up soon. About two weeks after that I emailed asking again about the job. I received a reply that I was still being considered for the position and that it hadn't been filled yet. They send emails when the position has been filled and I haven't received one so I"m assuming the job hasn't been filled by anyone yet.

I dont' want to continue to pester the lady I had the interview with, but do I contact her again. If so, how should I contact her this time and what should I write/say? Please give some advice I really dont' want to mess up the opportunity if they are still considering me! Thanks everyone!

Eight weeks is a pretty long time. They may not even want to fill it now. If they have not updated you on your status, you should definitely keep them in mind, but apply elsewhere. I really think you are not being a pest at all. You said you waited two weeks after the interview. I generally wait about a week after the interview to follow-up unless they tell me to wait two weeks or they are early in the process. Then, you followed up two weeks after that...they should have given you a better response..honestly since it was four weeks since you interviewed.

I think you should call back this one last time and ask her if the position will be filled anytime soon and what your status is. Say it like this "I interviewed for this [position title] a couple of months ago. I am still very interested in this position. However, it has been awhile..so I want to check up on if it this position will be filled. If so, am I still being considered?" Good luck.

That's a hard question to answer as it can be quite subjective. Did the person you speak with appear annoyed by your calls? If so, stop now! If they didn't appear annoyed, I would continue with the two to three week follow up. As an employer myself, I rarely dismiss someone for calling to check on the status of their application but unfortunately some people feel you're taking time from their day to answer the question.

Good luck!

Listen to the HR guy above. Don't irritate the fickle masters (or mistresses, I suppose) who hire us. They have you on file, and WILL contact you if they want you. But if they haven't after this much time, I wouldn't put much hope in the job, and I'd start looking elsewhere. Obviously they aren't prioritizing you, so don't prioritize them either.

I am a Human Resources Manager. There is nothing worse than having someone call you weekly about a job. It is very frustrating to me. I am much more likely to push a candidate who has made a "one call" effort to check, than one who has made 7 phone calls to me to check their status. It is fine to call once, but more than that can get annoying.

sometimes showing persistence is a good thing
call once a week until you know just say you were wondering how things were going and if they were any closer to deciding who to hire

I think that you should probably just wait and see now. Once is eager, twice is persistent. Any more enquiries may come off as desperate and annoying.
