Yesterday i changed 2 gallons of my 10 gal tank for its routine cleaning and after i added the water the tank began to get cloudy. When i woke up i was very very cloudy. i did all the water tests and everything was fine except for ammonia. it went as high as it could go. I put ammonia lock in it and now the tank is still cloudy. why after a water change did it get cloudy and have an ammonia spike??

I had the same problem as i love my fish and them to look and live in a lovekly clean tank.
The pet shop told me its the fish's urine, but it can also be in the water.
Try a Pond Clear even though it controls algae it does help with the water ph.
Also your pet shop will let you know the name as i dont know were you live and names could be different, but you can get a solution you add when you have filled your tank to help the chlorine levels also as some places have allot of this in there waters

That's fairly common in new tanks. It's called a bacterial bloom. The bacteria that eat debris in the bottom of the tank go a bit nuts reproducing for a while and cloud the water. It should resolve on its own or you can do partial water changes to help clear it.

Just fyi... if you're using ammolock, it will mess up your ammonia test readings and make them look very high. I prefer prime or Amquel.

hi there, i had the same problem a couple of years ago, so i completely emptied the tank and cleaned it, including all the stones and ornaments, as when i just topped it up i found out that it dregs up all the crap from the bottom, and i had to clean the filter three times before it cleared. so it was easier to empty it and do the job properly...good luck
i hope this helps

Sounds like an algea bloom.Your tank is probably fairly new.Don't put any goop from the fish store in it.Just leave it alone and it will be o.k. in a few days......

i dk did you clean the tank with anything? if you did, did it have ANY ammonia in it? You might want to consider an algae eater if theyre compatible w/ your fish. usually helps keep the tank cleaner. hope i helped! God bless! -me

you most likely polluted th water when you added the new by stirring up the bottom of the tank somehow.
