if the egg is not fertilized it disintegrates and is shed from the body....some people that are in "tune" with their cycle can actually tell when the egg is expelled because there is a slight brownish discharge.....
and to all the people who say that "its called your period' are WRONG.....considering you ovulate between the 13 and 15th day of you 28 day cycle, it would be impossible for the egg to come out with your period...that would mean the egg sat in your uterus for over 10 days......

An unfertilized egg can last up to 24 hours. If it is not fertilized then it degrades and travels to your uterus where it is expelled from the body. If I'm not mistaken, it comes out with your period.

In terms of how long a human egg is fertilizable..... Once the ovum (still in
meiosis) is ovulated, the physiological time in which it can be successfully
inseminated and become a zygote is approximately 24 hours. However, the
efficiency of the process drops off dramatically the closer one gets to 24
hours.
The functional life of an ejaculated sperm is said to be 72 hours.

The egg may last more than 24 hours. If it is not fertilized while still viable, you will have your period.

well, it needs to be combined with sperm. after htat, it has to attarch to the uterus lining. also, if you don't get pregnant, it starts your period. it lasts fro atleast a week because it takess it like three days to go down teh fallopian tube and then into the uterus to start the eriod a couple of days later.
