I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks it's inappropriate to use Yahoo Answers to do your homework. It defeats the purpose of learning, doesn't it? What do you think?

I think it does defeat the purpose. If they get their answers from here they dont learn one thing. When they are taking a test they cant get on a computer and ask what every answer is. Besides, if you need help ask your teacher. That is what they are there for.

I think those who seek to just get the answers are cheating, and those who just hand out the answers are helping people cheat. I find it extremely hard to believe that ANY teacher would say, "now I want you to go and post this to an internet site and get someone else to answer it for you"

There is a HUGE difference between helping someone and giving him/her the answer. While MAYBE some people are under the delusion that they are helping when they work out an entire math problem or do all the web research for someone, ultimately they're not helping at all.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- spoonfeeding, in the long run, teaches nothing but the shape of the spoon (E.M. Forster)

I'm VERY happy to help. Most of my annoyance is really towards the people who just do all the work for the asker. It's annoying that people are cheating...but honestly -- who are these people just spoonfeeding them the answers trying to impress?

Help people by giving them ideas about HOW to go about doing something for themselves. Teach a man to fish...

I have helped a number of people on Yahoo! Answers with their homework. As long as you show them how to do it I think it is just helping. I do not think people should get in trouble on Yahoo! Answers as long as they don't put every problem on their paper up as a question. I have seen people who do that.

I would use to to help me learn, not just to get answers. If I did ask, I would ask how they got the answer on the hopes that it would help me understand how to do a problem. However, I'm sure some people do use it just for the answers, but that's their problem. They will fail on the test and that's what they get! lol

Depends on the situation. If a person doesn't understand a type of math problem, then I don't see a problem with them having someone explain how to do it, but if someone asks for people to do every problem on their hw for them or asks people to look up historical facts for them, then yeah, I guess that would be cheating.

If someone gives you the answer and you use it then yes it is cheating. If they help you figure out HOW to answer then no.
Beware, some people will give you the wrong answer on purpose.

I'd rather send you to class with a copied answer than with a blank sheet of paper! Besides, some of the responses are so well-written, that if you bothered to read them to decide which to copy, you'd learn something.

I know what you mean...
Especially with math & physics problems, I would prefer if people who ask the question explain how they were trying to approach the problem & ask for help with the approach, rather than asking for the answer directly!

Depends... sometimes people need a different spin on things in order to understand them which is possible here. But like all things convenient and well-intentioned, it's bound to be abused.

Kind of like BitTorrent....

those that come here for help, usually get it and then try to do the rest by themselves, so no it is not cheating for them..... those that come here for answers only, get their answers and learn nothing, so they are cheating themselves.
